The social impact of mega sporting events on host cities
Abstract
Mega sporting events such as the Olympics, FIFA World Cup, and Super Bowl are significant undertakings for host cities, often bringing substantial economic benefits, enhanced international visibility, and the opportunity for urban development. However, these events also come with social implications, including displacement, inequality, and potential disruptions to local communities. This paper examines the social impacts of mega sporting events on host cities, analyzing both positive and negative consequences. Drawing on case studies from past events, this study explores how local communities are affected by these large-scale sporting spectacles and considers the long-term legacy of hosting such events.
