Pakistan’s All-Weather Friend China
Abstract
The China-Pakistan partnership, often termed an 'all-weather friendship', is a unique and enduring alliance. It has transitioned from military cooperation to economic and diplomatic collaboration, particularly within China's Belt and Road Initiative. This paper delves into this distinctive relationship's historical foundations, strategic considerations, and regional implications. It is characterised by reciprocal support in regional security, economic collaboration, and a united stance against common adversaries. The partnership, spanning military, financial, and diplomatic dimensions, demonstrates its resilience amid shifting geopolitical dynamics. China's support for Pakistan, including significant infrastructure projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), defence collaboration, and assistance in international forums, underscores the uniqueness of this enduring partnership. It plays a pivotal role in shaping South Asian geopolitics, influencing power dynamics, and affecting India's strategic calculations, while also reflecting China's broader ambitions throughout the region and beyond.
