A Process Automation Framework for Smart Inventory Control: Reducing Operational Waste through JIRA-Driven Workflow and Lean Practices
Abstract
In today’s fast-paced business environment, efficient inventory management is crucial for minimizing operational waste and maximizing productivity. Traditional inventory control systems often suffer from inefficiencies such as overstocking, stockouts, and delays due to manual processes. To address these challenges, this presents a process automation framework for smart inventory control, integrating JIRA-driven workflows with lean practices to enhance efficiency, transparency, and agility in inventory management. The proposed framework leverages JIRA’s automation capabilities to streamline key inventory processes, including demand forecasting, stock tracking, procurement approvals, and replenishment workflows. By utilizing JIRA’s Kanban boards, automation rules, and reporting features, organizations can achieve real-time visibility into inventory levels, ensuring timely decision-making and reducing waste associated with excess inventory or shortages. Additionally, Lean principles such as just-in-time (JIT), continuous improvement (Kaizen), and waste elimination (Muda) are embedded into the workflow design to enhance operational efficiency. This outlines the step-by-step implementation of the framework, mapping inventory control processes to JIRA-driven automation and integrating with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and warehouse management systems (WMS). A case study is presented to demonstrate real-world applications, highlighting tangible benefits such as faster inventory turnover, improved accuracy, and cost savings. Key challenges, including system integration and user adoption, are also discussed, along with mitigation strategies. By combining workflow automation and Lean methodologies, the proposed framework provides a scalable and adaptive solution for modern inventory control. Furthermore, emerging trends such as AI-driven inventory optimization and IoT-enabled real-time stock monitoring are explored as future enhancements. This offers practical insights for organizations seeking to reduce operational waste and improve supply chain efficiency through smart automation solutions.
