Artificial Intelligence Integration in Regulatory Compliance: A Strategic Model for Cybersecurity Enhancement
Abstract
In the evolving digital landscape, organizations face mounting challenges in maintaining regulatory compliance while safeguarding their systems against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. This paper proposes a strategic model for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into regulatory compliance frameworks to enhance cybersecurity resilience. The model addresses the limitations of traditional compliance approaches, which often struggle to keep pace with dynamic regulatory changes and emerging threat vectors. By leveraging AI capabilities—such as machine learning, natural language processing, and anomaly detection—organizations can automate compliance monitoring, conduct real-time risk assessments, and adapt more rapidly to regulatory shifts. The strategic model emphasizes the fusion of AI-driven tools with existing governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) systems. It outlines a five-tiered implementation framework: (1) Regulatory Data Ingestion, (2) Risk Mapping and Threat Detection, (3) Intelligent Compliance Automation, (4) Continuous Monitoring and Feedback Loops, and (5) Strategic Decision Support. Each tier leverages AI to streamline regulatory interpretations, identify gaps in compliance, and detect anomalous behaviors that may indicate security breaches or policy violations. The paper includes case-based insights from financial services, healthcare, and critical infrastructure sectors, where AI has been successfully implemented to reduce compliance costs and enhance cybersecurity posture. The proposed model also addresses ethical considerations, such as algorithmic transparency and data privacy, which are essential to maintaining stakeholder trust and meeting legal standards. Furthermore, it discusses the importance of cross-functional collaboration among compliance officers, cybersecurity teams, and AI developers in ensuring successful integration. Ultimately, the study underscores the transformative potential of AI in regulatory compliance, not only as a tool for meeting legal obligations but as a strategic enabler for proactive cyber defense. By adopting AI-enhanced compliance models, organizations can achieve real-time visibility, predictive risk mitigation, and improved alignment with regulatory bodies. This integration is vital in an era marked by rapid digitization, regulatory complexity, and evolving cyber threats.
