The ethics of performance-enhancing drugs in competitive sports
Abstract
The use of performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) in competitive sports is a contentious issue, raising both ethical and practical concerns. On one hand, PEDs are argued to provide athletes with a means to push their physical and mental limits, potentially improving their performance. On the other hand, the use of PEDs undermines the integrity of sports, introduces health risks, and creates unfair advantages. This paper explores the ethical implications of PED use in competitive sports, discussing arguments both for and against their use. Additionally, it considers the role of governing bodies, societal pressures, and the potential future of PEDs in sports, providing a comprehensive perspective on this ongoing issue.
