Drug Repurposing for Novel Indications
Abstract
Drug repurposing, also known as drug repositioning, is a strategy for identifying new therapeutic uses for existing drugs. This approach offers a cost-effective and time-efficient alternative to traditional drug discovery, as it leverages existing safety and efficacy data. The present article explores the concept of drug repurposing, its methodologies, and its potential to address unmet medical needs. We discuss various computational and experimental approaches used in drug repurposing, highlight successful case studies, and examine the challenges and opportunities in this field. The article concludes with a discussion on the future directions of drug repurposing and its implications for personalized medicine.
